VfL Bochum secured their first win of the season with a convincing victory over Augsburg at home on Saturday afternoon.
The match saw both teams create chances, but it was VfL Bochum who took the lead in the 42nd minute through a quick goal from midfielder Florian Thauvin. The striker showed great pace and skill to beat his marker before slotting home from close range.
Augsburg responded immediately though, as goalkeeper Simon Rost made a fantastic save to deny Thauvin from close range. However, they were unable to find an equaliser and went into half-time trailing by one goal.
The second half saw VfL Bochum continue to dominate possession and create more opportunities. Thauvin was again involved, this time setting up a goal for fellow forward Mario Gomez in the 59th minute. The striker showed great composure to score his first goal of the season from close range.
Despite being down to ten men shortly after, VfL Bochum held onto their lead and ran out comfortable winners thanks to a strong performance from goalkeeper Benjamin Schmiegler. He made several important saves throughout the game to keep his team in the match.
Overall, it was a well-deserved victory for VfL Bochum who have now started the season strongly. They will be hoping to build on this result and continue to push for success in the coming weeks.
